Singapore Makan Revolution Part 2

Now since I got the drinking out of the way, now lets get to the food in the second part. On Thursday I met up with E Hunt and Jacinta for a catch up session. We met at Queens and Mangosteen at Harbour Front. It is basically an up market British pub with British pub grub and booze. We (E Hunt and I) allowed Jacinta who did the research to order and she order 3 delectable dishes.

Sorry for the picture quality because it was pretty dark at the restaurant and it was taken using my camera phone. The picture on top is the fisherman pie which was pretty good. The top layer is mash potato and at the bottom we have assorted seafood like crab, dish and prawns in a cream base sauce. What was more spectacular was the salad side dish of rockets. Delish.

Next where the 3 mini hamburger with mash potato. Now this was surprising, I thought it won't be spectacular but the beef patty was nicely season, well cooked and just perfect. The only problem with this dish is the burger is a bit too small. After I finished my burger, I was left wanting for more.

Last but not least was the simplest and most readily available pub food, fish and chips. Now it looks simple enough but what made it special was the sauce. Instead of standard tartar sauce, it was tartar sauce mixed with a bit of curry powder. It was a bit asianised but it tasted absolutely perfect. The fish was also  fresh and most important of all the batter was crispy. It was obviously wasted down with....

It was a great night out of food and to catch up with friends. That was Thursday and on Friday we (Amy and I) met up with Juin Wei and Mei Kit for dinner as well. Amy took the bus up and after my conference we went to dinner at Bugis Junction near my hotel. We waited a good 30 minutes for a seat at...

This place is interesting as it is fusion food between Japanese and French food. After the waiting, we were really hungry and ordered for appetiser...

Scotch eggs. It looks simple but man this was a great appetiser. Basically it is hard boil egg wrapped with meat that taste like a meat ball and fried. It was a really good appetiser but maybe too heavy as an appetiser. The meat ball wrapping was really good and the eggy taste just adds to the flavour. For mains we order...

This believe it or not is a hamburger. Basically it is a patty of bouef (beef in French) covered with a layer of cheese and most important is the brown sauce. The mince bouef was cooked to perfection and the combination of cheese and brown sauce was perfect. This place by the way is famous for the brown sauce. Next was...

Japanese Omu rice. Now I love the Omu Rice. It is like Japanese nasi goreng pataya. What we have is tomato fried rice wrapped in scrambled eggs and with yes again the brown sauce. Not sure what is it about emu rice but I totally love it. Last but not least is....

Spaghetti Carbonara. It was interesting when the waiter put this dish on the table as it wasn't sitting in cream sauce. However the cream sauce was lightly coated around the spaghetti and it was absolutely delicious. We couldn't get enough of it and could have gone for seconds. It was just we were too full to order anymore.

Another interesting twist about this place is once you have gotten all the food you order, they give you something to go to the cashier to pay with...

Basically that key corresponds to your check number and you just present it to the cashier and they will ring up the bill. It a good dinner and highly recommended.

If you think this is it, wait till part 3 which is over the weekend...
